Haskovo agreement renewal

Leicester  –  Haskovo  Partnership  Continues

The cities of Leicester and Haskovo have renewed their agreement to work in co-operation in the fields of education, culture, sport and commerce.

Early in September 2018 CLETA received a formal invitation from the Mayor of Haskovo, Mr Dobri Belivanov, to attend the Haskovo Celebration Day, when 6 new Honorary citizens were announced.  Various events were organised by the Municipality to entertain the VIP guests from Greece, Portugal, Romania and Russia, as well as the UK.

Fred Rankin, as Chair of CLETA, and John Townsend, Deputy Chair of CLETA, signed the Formal Twinning Agreement with the Haskovo City Mayor, Dobri Belivanov and presented the Mayor with an engraved salver to commemorate the occasion.

In addition john Townsend, as Honorary Life Deputy President of the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce, renewed his links with the Haskovo Chamber of Commerce, which was hoping to organise another business delegation to Leicester. 

Recent events have involved the Leicester City Ladies Football Club visiting Sofia to play a team from Haskovo, as well as the Bulgarian Ladies Champions (winning both matches) –  exchange choir visits  –  and links between Leicester’s Judgemeadow Community College and the Foreign Language School in Haskovo.
