Leicester University Chamber Choir visit Strasbourg

University of Leicester Chamber Choir

Visit Strasbourg in July 2023

The Choir approached CLETA in the latter half of 2022 enquiring as to whether the organisation could help them arrange a visit to Strasbourg.  With the excellent response from the Mayor of Strasbourg’s office, in particular Juliette Kohler, contact was made with members of the University of Strasbourg.  During the early months of 2023, the Choir’s President, Lizzie Mumby, was instrumental in organising a visit.

CLETA supported the Choir the whole way through the process and awarded them a grant of £750 towards the costs.  This is the way in which CLETA can assist and support any groups or individuals from Leicester to achieve the opportunity to link up with all of our twinned cities of Strasbourg, Krefeld and Haskovo.  If you would like to create such an opportunity, please contact CLETA through the link on our website.

Now let’s enjoy their visit together with the comments from some of the choir members:

The full choir outside the Strasbourg Mayor’s Office

“Our tour to Strasbourg was so much fun! It was exceptionally organised with the help of the Twinning Society both in Leicester and Strasbourg. It was so wonderful to have such a warm welcome from the city of Strasbourg and to be able to perform some beautiful music for our audiences.” – Jessica Gordon

Visit to the European Parliament

“I really enjoyed our trip to Strasbourg. The city is beautiful and everyone we met was very welcoming. Our tour of the European parliament was fascinating and the opportunity to sing in the shadow of the cathedral was truly unforgettable.” – Tom York

Outside Concert

“I had a wonderful time exploring the sights of Strasbourg and learning its wonderful history! It was made all the more special by spending time with some local students and members of the city council. I can’t wait to visit again soon!” – Becca Fox

Sights on the River Cruise

“I enjoyed Strasbourg so much! We had so many great opportunities when we were there including a boat trip and a tour of the European Parliament! I particularly enjoyed the outdoor concert we did which was so well organised by the city and went down wonderfully.” – Ella Smith

The final concert

“Our trip to Strasbourg was such a lovely opportunity to perform our music for new people from further afield. I felt very proud to travel with so many wonderful friends and share our fantastic community that was born in Leicester with the people of Strasbourg. Overall, the experience was unforgettable and I feel very lucky to have been able to be a part of such a brilliant tour.” – Lizzy Mumby
