Iconic Photographs of Leicester displayed in Krefeld - City of Leicester European Twinning Association

SET OF ICONIC PHOTOS OF LEICESTER

NOW DISPLAYED IN KREFELD RATHAÜS

Following the visit of the Krefeld Oberbürgermeister (Lord Mayor), Mr. Frank Meyer, and his staff to Leicester during May 2019, he was so impressed by his first visit to our city that he commissioned CLETA with supplying a set of photographs of iconic Leicester buildings and locations. He wished to use them as a display inside a newly furbished Committee room within the Rathaüs (Town Hall). As a friendship gesture, he has named the room – the ‘Leicester’ room.

From a collection of 30 photographs submitted by Bethany Chadwick, 18 years, a student from Leeds Art University, whose family are from Leicester, 6 were chosen and mounted on frames measuring 1 metre square. The photo frames have been covered in a new concept of see-through fabric which helps to reduce noise pollution in the large room.

The photographs chosen for the display are as follows:

2. King Power Stadium

3. Market Place

4. Highcross Shopping Mall

5. High Judges’ Rooms, The Castle Grounds

6. Curve Theatre

In December 2019, Bethany visited Krefeld in company with several members of her family, in order to view the exhibition of her photos within the Rathaüs. It was a very proud moment for her when she met the Oberbürgermeister of Krefeld, Mr Frank Meyer, who welcomed her to Krefeld for the first time and thanked her personally for all of her hard work in producing the fine collection of photographs. She and her family were treated to afternoon tea after visiting the ‘Leicester’ room following official photographs.
