Lord Mayor’s Reception in Town Hall

Following this year’s intake of students from Krefeld and Strasbourg, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Annette Byrne, held a buffet reception in the Tea Rooms at the Town Hall to thank their internship supervisors. Leicester hosted 19 students in total throughout the Summer and Autumn period; their work placements were mainly within the various departments of the Leicester City Council but some local businesses also provided opportunities, including Leicester Racecourse, the Belmont Hotel and Sempervox (IT, Communications and Internet for Businesses). The University of Leicester also provided an internship within their Languages Department.

The Lord Mayor, who is President of the City of Leicester European Twinning Association (CLETA) during her term of office, spoke about the valuable assistance the supervisors had given to all the students. She had personally spoken to all of the students during the course of their internships and they all spoke highly of their various supervisors. It is common practice for the Lord Mayor to invite the students for ‘afternoon tea’ and the students enjoy and respect this special opportunity given to them.
The Chair of CLETA, Fred Rankin, also addressed the gathering and thanked them personally for their kind cooperation in hosting the students. All of the students had returned home with the knowledge that they had satisfactorily completed their internship criteria of working within an English speaking environment.
Whatever the outcome of Brexit, both of our twinned cities of Krefeld and Strasbourg have stated that they still intend to send their students to Leicester for their work placement internships.
