GERMANY REUNIFICATION DAY – THURSDAY 3RD OCTOBER 2019

CELEBRATION CONCERT HELD IN KREFELD

Members of CLETA Executive were invited by Krefeld Oberbürgermeister, Frank Meyer, to join him and other invited guests at a Concert held to celebrate Germany Reunification Day.  The programme for the evening is shown below:

Tag der Deutschen Einheit 2019 – ‘Day of the German Unity 2019’

The first half of the Concert was dedicated to Italy and the conductor was also an Italian, Raffaele Franchini.  Music was composed by Italian Composers: Giacomo Puccini and Ottorino Respighi.

The music played in the second half was composed by the German, Johannes Brahms.  The whole evening was a great success and the Lower Rhine Symphony Orchestra played beautifully.

During their stay, the CLETA Executive comprising Chairman Fred Rankin, his wife Vivien and Deputy Chairman John Townsend, were looked after very well by members of the Krefeld Twinning Department.  They visited the local Krefeld-Linn Castle:

They were given a walking tour of some of the fine buildings and churches in Krefeld Town Centre.  The spirit of Harvest Festival was highlighted in one of the churches:

And Halloween presentations were displayed in many of the stores:

As always, the shopping centre was busy and it was a pleasure to walk through wonderful tree-lined area right in the middle of the City:

During the visit, the Oberbürgermeister held a meeting with many members of his staff to discuss our ongoing twinning friendship and ways in which we can build on our great partnership.  The emphasis was particularly directed towards encouraging youngsters to become involved.

Following such a successful visit, the CLETA Executive will endeavour to introduce our younger citizens of Leicester to experience the joys of joining in with our Town Twinning adventures.
